Wednesday November 18, 2026
8:00am – 12:00n
Advanced Technologies Academy (aka ATech) Magnet School
And
Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at UNLV
This tour will first visit ATech, a magnet school in the Clark County School District, Advanced Technologies Academy is a Career and Technical Academy (CTA). The curricular areas align with the theme of “Academics Plus Technology” through the strategic use of technology in both the core and program area classes. A-TECH’s mission is to empower a diverse student body by teaching the academic concepts and technological skills necessary to empower students to succeed in a highly competitive, technologically changing world. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with students, teachers, and administrators of this innovative learning community.
On its second stop, the tour will be at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at UNLV. Museum staff will be hosting tours and a workshop for NAME conference attendees. Using selected works from the exhibitions, Barrick educators will guide attendees through the process of interpreting visual art in ways that make it accessible to diverse audiences. The session will then extend beyond the museum setting, demonstrating how Visual Teaching Strategies (VTS) can be adapted for pK - 16+ classrooms, supporting multicultural education and inclusive teaching practices. This program offers conference participants a practical, hands-on model for bridging museum-based learning with classroom pedagogy, reinforcing the role of art as a shared and accessible language for all learners.
