On April 7, 2004, Secretary Paige, OELA's Deputy Under Secretary Maria Hernandez
Ferrier and others shared a special "Kick Off" presentation of information
designed to assist parents and educators to better understand and work with
parental rights and opportunities under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The
Kick Off event included a special media presentation outlining Parental Rights,
including printable copies of the rights available in both English and Spanish.

the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse learners in the
U.S.
Center for Applied Linguistics - CAL
is a private, non-profit organization: a group of scholars and educators who use
the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing
language-related problems. CAL carries out a wide range of activities including
research, teacher education, analysis and dissemination of information, design
and development of instructional materials, technical assistance, conference
planning, program evaluation, and policy analysis.
